3DMakerpro Raven LiDAR 3D Scanner – Max (2 x Camera)

The 3DMakerpro Raven Max is a portable handheld LiDAR 3D scanner designed for capturing buildings, rooms, outdoor environments and other large physical spaces. Combining long-range LiDAR measurement, SLAM positioning and dual 12MP colour cameras, it can capture detailed spatial and visual information while the operator moves naturally through the scanning area.

Raven Max is particularly suited to applications where both geometry and visual detail are important, including BIM, construction documentation, digital twins, architecture, heritage recording, visual effects and Gaussian Splatting. Its handheld workflow removes the need to repeatedly reposition a stationary terrestrial scanner, while the integrated display allows scan coverage to be monitored directly in the field.

Large-Area LiDAR Capture

The Raven Max is designed to capture environments that would be impractical to record using a conventional short-range object scanner. Its LiDAR system offers an effective scanning radius of up to 50 metres depending on surface reflectivity, with a quoted total scanning range of approximately 80 to 100 metres. Capture rates of up to 150,000 points per second allow substantial amounts of spatial information to be recorded as the operator moves through the site.

A 360° horizontal and 40° vertical field of view provides broad coverage around the scanner and helps reduce blind spots during continuous capture. Instead of setting up and registering numerous stationary scans, an operator can walk through rooms, buildings, streets, construction areas, caves and other large environments while Raven records the surrounding geometry.

SLAM-Based Positioning and Alignment

Raven Max uses SLAM processing to estimate its position while moving through an environment. LiDAR, image and inertial information are combined to track movement and maintain alignment between successive areas of the scan, allowing large spaces to be recorded as a continuous dataset rather than as a collection of individually positioned stationary scans.

Scan progress can be monitored using the integrated 3.9-inch AMOLED touchscreen, giving the operator immediate visual feedback while working through a site. This makes it easier to identify incomplete areas or gaps in coverage before leaving the location, reducing the risk of discovering missing scan data later during processing.

Dual 12MP Cameras for Colour 3D Capture

3DMakerpro Raven Max dual 12MP camera system

Raven Max features two integrated 12MP colour cameras that capture visual information alongside the LiDAR geometry. The dual-camera configuration provides broader colour coverage around the scanner, helping produce more complete colourised point clouds and textured reconstructions of large environments.

This additional visual information is particularly useful for digital twins, virtual environments, heritage documentation, visual effects and Gaussian Splatting, where the appearance of a captured space matters alongside its physical geometry. Raven Max can therefore be used not only to measure an environment, but also to create visually recognisable digital representations of the scanned location.

Visual Reconstruction and Gaussian Splatting

Combining LiDAR geometry with imagery from the dual-camera system gives Raven Max flexibility beyond conventional point-cloud capture. Scanned environments can be developed into colourised point clouds, textured models and visual reconstructions for applications where users need to inspect, present or digitally recreate a physical location.

Raven also supports Gaussian Splatting workflows, providing another route for producing realistic digital representations of captured spaces. For projects requiring additional panoramic imagery, a compatible mounting solution can also be used with supported third-party 360° cameras such as the Insta360 X4 and X5.

Portable Scanning for Indoor and Outdoor Projects

At approximately 1.1kg, Raven is designed to be carried through a site rather than repeatedly transported and repositioned between fixed scanning locations. The removable 12,000mAh battery grip provides up to approximately two hours of operation and can be exchanged when longer scanning sessions are required.

This portable design makes Raven Max suitable for both indoor and outdoor fieldwork, particularly when recording large or complex environments where a tripod-based workflow would take considerably longer. The operator can follow a planned route through the site while continuously recording the surrounding geometry and colour information.

Point Cloud Processing and Professional Workflows

Captured Raven Max data can be processed using 3DMakerpro RayStudio on a compatible Windows workstation. The resulting scan data can be prepared for use across point-cloud, mesh and visualisation workflows, allowing Raven to fit into existing processes rather than restricting captured data to a proprietary viewing environment.

Supported exports include LAS, PCD, PLY, OBJ, E57 and XYZ, providing options for transferring scan data into compatible CAD, BIM, surveying, reverse-engineering, visual-effects and digital-twin software. This makes the Raven Max particularly useful for professional teams that need to capture a physical environment in the field and continue working with the resulting dataset using their established software tools.
